MILA Discussion Festival LAMPA highlights the risks posed by artificial intelligence

11 July at the Festival of ConversationLAMPAThe Latvian Artificial Intelligence Association (MILA) in cooperation withAI Latvia – Artificial Intelligence Centreorganized a discussion"How do you prove it's not you?", which gathered a wide audience and addressed one of the most important challenges of artificial intelligence today – security and trust in the digital environment.

The discussion was opened byElvis Strazdins, demonstrating practical examples of deepfakes, digital fraud and cybersecurity risks in the age of artificial intelligence. The demonstrations showed how convincingly human voices, images and videos can be imitated today using publicly available information and AI technologies.

In a panel discussion moderated byAI Latvia – Artificial Intelligence CenterDirectorGuna Puce, participatedDmitrijs Nikitins(Tet),Gatis Romanovskis(ANIMAS),Jānis Grīslis(VerifX),Anita Aiga Bērziņa(Office of the Ombudsman) andElvis Strazdins(bool).

Experts discussed:

  • the risks to citizens and businesses from artificial intelligence;
  • the impact of deep fakes and digital fraud;
  • cybersecurity and data security challenges;
  • the protection of fundamental rights in the age of artificial intelligence;
  • practical solutions for the safe and responsible use of AI.

The discussion highlighted that alongside the rapid development of artificial intelligence, there is a significant increase in the need for digital literacy, critical thinking and the readiness of organizations to strengthen cybersecurity. Technologies create new opportunities, but at the same time they can also be used for identity fraud, fraud and other malicious purposes.

MILA thanksAI Latvia – Artificial Intelligence Centrefor cooperation, the participants of the discussion for their professional contribution and valuable insights, and all visitors for their interest and active involvement.

The wide audience response confirms that the conversation about the safe, responsible and trustworthy use of artificial intelligence in Latvia is more relevant than ever. MILA will continue to promote public awareness of the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence, promoting the responsible development and use of technology.
