The Association of Artificial Intelligence Latvia (MILA) has joined the Standardization Technical Committee LVS/STK 59 “Artificial Intelligence”, strengthening the professional representation of the industry in the development and implementation of artificial intelligence standards in Latvia. The association is represented in the committee by MILA co-founder and board member Gatis Romanovskis.

The Technical Committee LVS/STK 59 was established in November 2025 to ensure regular and active involvement of Latvia in the development of European and international standards in the field of artificial intelligence. The scope of the committee's activities includes AI terminology, basic principles, systems, conformity assessment, as well as management of ethical and social aspects, promoting the adoption and practical implementation of these standards in Latvia.

MILA's involvement in STK 59 provides practical experience in the standardization process, representing the perspective of AI solution developers and implementers. The association brings together industry experts whose knowledge is essential for creating sustainable, responsible, and applicable standards for real business and public sector needs.

“Participation in the technical committee for standardization provides an opportunity to actively participate in the development of the framework for artificial intelligence in Latvia, ensuring that standards meet both international requirements and the practical implementation reality,” says Gatis Romanovskis.

Iveta Mežinska, Head of the Standardization Department of LVS, confirms that participation in the Technical Committee for Standardization provides interested parties with the opportunity to participate in the content of standards, to gain in-depth knowledge of standards under development and already published standards, to follow the development trends of the industry, as well as to establish professional contacts with other experts.

The Latvian Standard is the national standardization institution that coordinates the activities of the technical committees for standardization in Latvia. LVS/STK 59 is open to new members.
